Integration of the left and right brain hemispheres is important so that the whole brain is involved in the thinking and learning process. Getting both sides of the brain working together helps to develop the nerve pathways between the left and right hand side of the brain.

Some left and right brain integration activities are:
  • Crocodiles – same sided i.e. arm and leg bent on same side as face, cross pattern i.e. arm bent on same side as face, leg straight on this side. Then change-change-change
  • Walking crossing feet over a line then do pointing to opposite feet
  • Crawl on hands and knees – forwards and backwards under the table/chair/broom
  • Monkey walk on a ladder or pushing a ball with your head
  • Do the monkey bars – again check the thumbs are up and over bar
  • Fine motor activities where you cross over the midline (see Fine and Gross Motor Skills)
